What are offshore credit cards and how do they work?
Previously, it was not so easy to access your funds from an offshore jurisdiction but with the advent of offshore credit cards this has been made very convenient. Offshore credit cards resemble onshore credit cards by wearing the Visa or MasterCard logo and being able to access merchants and ATMs world wide they offer: insurance, car rentals, cash replacement, internet access of statements and an array of other services.
But the similarities end there; offshore credit cards only exist as a secured credit card. The cardholder must put up a deposit, which excludes the individual from any credit check. The amount of the deposit needed ranges anywhere from 100-200% of what the credit line you require. For example, if you want a credit line of $10,000 then you would need to deposit anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 depending on the financial institution in the offshore jurisdiction.
In the strictest sense of the word offshore credit cards are not really credit cards, as we know them onshore seeing they are backed by your own funds. There are fees also that are associated with the use of these cards but given the privacy they afford, they are certainly appealing to many individuals.
