In situations where online banking software is required, your financial institution will provide you with a copy. There are certain tasks that can be achieved online without requiring this software. For example, if you want to check your mutual funds or your credit card balance, depending on the financial institution, you can go to directly to that specific site and retrieve the information you require. All you require is a password. However, if you want to transfer funds, pay bills online etc. you will require a copy of online banking software from your financial institution. In addition to the online banking software, there are also several popular personal financial software packages available. Some of the more popular software include Quicken and Microsoft Money. Both these products can be used for online banking. For Quicken, use the Quicken Interchange Format (QIF-Long). For Microsoft Money, use the OFX export type. In order to get started with online banking software you must have either an IBM compatible or Macintosh computer. You will also need a modem, an Internet browser and of course access to the Internet through a ISP (Internet Access Provider). The recommended browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or newer, Netscape Communicator 4.7 or Netscape Navigator 4.08.
